Renée Tomlin (Ocean City, N.J.) defended her 2016 title at ITU Triathlon World Cup Tiszaújváros in Hungary on Sunday, the seventh stop of 15 on this season’s ITU World Cup circuit. The race featured a semifinal format, with qualifying heats on Saturday and finals on Sunday. Both the semifinal and final courses consisted of a 750-meter swim, 20-kilometer bike and 5-kilometer run course. The top 30 men and top 30 women after the semifinal heats advanced to the Sunday final.
Tomlin, Erin Dolan (Bentonville, Ark.) and Tamara Gorman (Rapid City, S.D.) easily secured spots in the women’s final after strong races on Saturday. Tomlin ultimately broke the tape in 1 hour, 45 seconds, followed by Leonie Periault of France in second and Maaike Caelers of the Netherlands in third. Dolan placed 11th in 1:01:36, with Gorman five seconds behind in 12th.
