As the month of December has now closed, I thought I would take the time to write about the event so far. First, I would like to think the Black Triathlete Association for inviting me and allowing me to compete on their team in the USA Triathlon’s National Challenge Competition. I greatly appreciate it and it has motivated me to train a little more than I have in most Decembers.
This December was not a good as far as getting miles for the teams as it was last year. I will put a good plan together for the next two months to make up some mileage for the team. The following is a breakdown of this December and last two December’s training. I had a total of 459.75 miles of combine training between running, swimming and cycling, this was stretched over 50 hour and 3 minutes of training. I had 17 hours and 37 minutes of running for a total of 69.05 miles. I had 20 hours and 19 minutes of cycling for a total of 374.75 miles. I had 8 hours and 5 minutes of swimming for a total of 15.29 miles of swimming. I had 4 hours of strength training. As you will see in the following paragraph this a lot less than last December. I will build a plan for the next two months to get back to the overall number I had last year.
In December 2015, I logged a total of 83 hours and 56 minutes of training made up of a combination of running, swimming, cycling and strength training. I had 11 hours and 34 minutes of swimming for a total of 17.27 miles. I had 32 hours and 10 minutes of cycling for a total of 576.87 miles. I had 31 hours and 10 minutes of running for a total of 123.15 miles. I had 9 hours of strength training. Last December was probably my best December of training in a long time.
In December 2014, my training was different. I logged a total of 36 hours 29 minutes of training for the entire month. A breakdown of the training was; 9 hours and 43 minutes of running for a total of 72 miles, 13 hours of cycling for a total of 252 miles, 3 hours of swimming for a total of 4.5 miles, and 11 hours of strength training. Below is the days and miles I logged for the month of December, with almost a twice as many miles as last year.
Once again, thanks for the invite to the team and I will do what I can to support the team.
Congrats

Question – it looks like your average running pace is around 4 mph, or 15:00 per mile. Do you actually run that pace, or run/walk, or not turn the watch off for breaks? Just curious.

That data is from a mix of run and walking. I do a lot of slow walks for 3-5 miles during December thru Feb, and your numbers are correct and great question. My normally training pace for runs is 8 min per mile or a little faster.
