This is my end of February 2016 training summary, and I would like to start out by thanking the Black Triathlete Association (BTA) for the invitation to be a part of their club for the National Challenge Competition (NCC), organized by USA Triathlon. This event assisted in motivating me and pushing me to do more than I normally do in the month of February. I would also like to thank my wife and son for putting up with me this month.
As this month comes to a close, I have the Athletes Feeding Kids virtual event, in March, to compete in, as well. The Athletes Feeding Kids event has five different catorgies. I think I will do the full triathlon event, but it also offers an ultra-marathon event, ultra-cycling event, ultra-swimming event and a couch potato event.
Consistency has played a big role in accomplishing the miles on the bike, run and yards in the pool. Setting a goal for the month and logging my miles as I went, kept me on track, setting me up to accomplish my goals. My wife was very important in making sure that I followed a food plan. Planning meals in advance and sticking to the plan helped me to lose the weight I gained when triathlon season ended, as well as fuel my current level of training.
I started the month at 178.8 pounds and by the 31st my weight was down to 174.5 pounds. I average 2500 calories a day. I was very consistent with my food intake, not varying more than 200 calories from one day to the next. My body measurements are below:
1 Feb 29 Feb
Neck 15.5” 15.5”
Chest 40” 40”
Right Upper Arm 12.5” 12.5”
Right Forearm 11.75” 11.75”
Waist 35” 33”
Right Thigh 22.5” 22.5”
Right Calf 16” 16”
When comparing February 2015 to February 2016, I had zero yards of swimming in 2015, but this year I have managed to get in the pool 9 times for 9.43 miles of swimming. I had 14 training rides last February for 239.82 miles, whereas this year I have managed to get 28 training rides in for 354.7 miles. In February 2015, I got in 11 runs for 46.67 miles and this January I got 32 runs in for 123.78 miles. I did manage to get in more strength training in February 2015 than this year. Last year I got 15 events for 8:30 hours of lifting and this year I only got 10 strength training events in with 5 hours of lifting.
