Gelen Rupp, Meb Keflezighi and Jared Ward Mens Marathon Olympics Trails Top Three

Galen Rupp of Portland, Oregon, shed his cap, then dropped his competition to win his first-ever marathon — and qualify for the Rio de Janeiro 2016 Olympic Games. The 29-year-old clocked an unofficial 2 hours, 11 minutes, 12 seconds at the U.S. Olympic Team Trials for Marathon amid punishing temperatures rising to the low 70s.

Said Rupp: “I had a blast out there.”

Joining the 2012 Olympic 10,000-meter silver medalist on Team USA were Meb Keflezighi, who at age 40 becomes the oldest U.S. men’s Olympic marathoner and only one to make three Olympic teams, and unheralded Jared Ward, 27, of Provo, Utah, the 12th seed, who finished in 2:12:20 and 2:13:00, respectively
